How To Live a Healthy and Wholesome Life

The building blocks of good health are a balanced diet and plenty of exercise.  However, most people say that they are too busy to take time out to exercise.  Others have engaged in exercise activities, but were not satisfied with the outcome. As individuals, our goal should be a healthier lifestyle through changed attitudes and habits.

Many studies have indicated that it is important to get the right nutrition and to have regular exercise in order to have a healthy life.  Towards this end, it is recommended that everyone should be engaged in an average of 30 minutes of exerting physical activity every day.

New studies have indicated that you need not engage in very intense physical activity in order to get desirable results.  Simple activities such as walking the dog, raking leaves, taking the stairs instead of the elevator and folding laundry are very helpful.  The main idea is to have a consistent regime.  You can also park your car a little further from where you are going for an appointment so that you can get a little exercise walking there.

It is important to always stay active, but that is not the only thing you should be doing in order to maintain a wholesome lifestyle. No amount of exercise in the whole wide world can substitute having a well balanced diet.

Instead of eating three main meals, that is breakfast, lunch and dinner; it is recommended that people eat several small well balanced meals, probably four, and a few small snacks in between throughout the whole day.  A balanced diet means a meal that contains carbohydrates, vegetables, fruits and protein.

Excellent sources of protein are white meat, egg whites, beans, rice and dairy products.  Carbohydrates are to be gotten from wild rice, pasta and multi-grain cereal.  Five servings of vegetables and fruit in a day as snacks are recommended.

For those people who do not get adequate vitamins and nutrients from what they eat, nutritional supplements can be helpful. Such supplements include energy bars, protein shakes, weight-loss supplements and multivitamins.

Diet and exercise are helpful for metabolism.  Metabolism is the process by which the body breaks down food to produce energy.  A person with a fast metabolism stores less fat and produces more energy.  People with slow metabolism store more fat and produce less energy.

Many people assume that the main reason for exercise is to burn calories, but that is not the only reason to exercise.  The key motive is to send a message to the brain to tell our bodies that we need to improve in fitness, aerobic capacity, endurance, metabolism and strength.

It is recommended that if you want to shed excessive weight and keep a slim lean figure, you must engage in regular aerobic exercises with a minimum of three times a week.  Such exercise should last at least thirty minutes a day chosen from aerobic exercises such as dancing, walking, jogging, biking, aerobic classes and swimming.  Resistance training is also important for dieters and should be undertaken at least twice a week for a minimum duration of thirty minutes a session.
